Career Guidance for for Accountants

Sir My name is Devender Thakur, I want to take your kind guidance regarding my career. I started my career as a computer operator in 2009 after completing my +2 in non medical Stream and one year diploma in computer application. During my work I also joined " Academy for professional Accountant" to learn Professional Accounting Techniques for six month totally practical based and also Started my graduation in Commerce Stream (B.com).  Because there was no full time accountant in our firm so I got the position of Accountant but there is always a part time accountant over me due to which I feel myself on the back foot.

Responsibilities which should be with me are with part time accountant. I am now b.com and know accounting but due absence of responsibilities. Also the owner keep hold on everything. there is a hurdle in learning new things. So I think I should look for a change. I have been working with the same firm for last five years. I am getting a salary of Rs.18000 per month here. This is a local jewellery showroom at Chandigarh having yearly turnover of Rs. 25 Crore. apprx. Please guide me what should I do. What should I do to enhance my capabilities and what to shine in my work prospective. I can join CA because for that I need to quit the work, which is not possible. What should I do now?

Recently, I have the brief career guidance in accounting to Devender on his mobile which I am sharing with you.

1. Walk from Accounting Profession to Business

I have made understand to Devender. He should do his own business. He worked 5 years as accountant. He has also knowledge of jewelry business. So, he should walk from accounting profession to business. Only, then he can use his full capability. There are two advantages to do business after working as accountant.

a) Accountant can do business because can analyze better the estimation of capital. Proper value and quantity of inventory. Areas where he can promote his business.

b) He can maintain his business account himself.

In above case, he is accountant in the jewelry firm where there is limited accounting work. If he will do any business, his scope of accounting work will increase. For example, he can start his own accounting business in which he can know different accounting and taxation aspects of different type of business.

2. Care of Age and Responsibilities During Full Time CA Professional Degree

His age is 26 and he is married. His desire is to do CA. It is good, he wants to get professional degree. But for this, he should not forget to care his age and responsibilities. CA is not the game of one or two years if we start CA from today. He need not to do CA full time because it is time consuming and you should take also time for your family. Moreover, I can say. I am not CA. Am I not successful in Accounting? There are unlimited areas of accounting in which you can get success. After CA within 5 to 7 years, you have to again hard work for setting your career as professional CA in the market.  You can do CA part-time. Or you can do M.Com. So, try to balance in doing new course and getting earning source for fulfillment your family responsibilities.

3. Career As Investor

Recent time, you can make also your career as investor. Invest your money in stock exchange, mutual funds, bonds, debentures and hedge funds and real estate. For this, you need only two things. One, you have the money. Second, you have the knowledge of each market. Otherwise, your wrong investment decision will waste all your money. Accountants can get learn lots of money, commodity and capital market trends online during free time and on this basis, slowly, they can shift to investor career.
